Hopeful Mushroom

Hopeful Mushroom is a continuation of my enchanted mushroom series. He is only 7cm tall, grounded on the forest floor, where anyone might step on him. But he is young, hopeful and curious about everything around him. If he could, he would love to be able to explore the forest. As it is, being a mushroom poses quite an obstacle. He waits in anticipation, for someone to come along, who would tell him about all the places he isn't able to see for himself.

I have used linen to make Hopeful Mushroom's body, acrylic paints to add colour and matte varnish to protect the paintwork. He has glass eyes.
I have used a slice of birch to make a base for this sculpture. The wood has been sanded and coated in wax for protection. I have also covered the underside with woollen felt so that it will not damage furniture. The grass around the sculpture is made of wool.
